A real estate attorney in Pocono, New York, was arrested Sunday on charges that he battered his wife with a metal pole, police said.
The lawyer, Peter Wojciechowski, 42, was arraigned Monday in federal court in New York City.
He was not charged with any crime, but authorities are investigating whether he acted recklessly in the incident.
The couple had a three-month-old child at the time of the incident, Pocono police said in a statement.
Police said the woman had a history of domestic violence.
Police said Wojcochowski struck his wife at her home on Aug. 18, according to the Pocono Observer.
The couple’s 6-month old daughter was not injured.
Wojczowski’s wife told police that he pushed her, and that she was able to call 911, the paper reported.
Police reported that the woman was not intoxicated at the incident and that Wojchowski had a restraining order against his wife.
In a statement, Wojcikowski said he is sorry and that he had no idea he was hurting anyone.
The Pocono attorney’s Facebook page says he’s been practicing for 30 years.
He graduated from the University of Rochester School of Law and has taught at schools across the state.
